eBay update – March

A quick update on our eBay Challenge. As you now know, one of our monthly challenges, for both de-cluttering purposes and extra cash generation, is selling items on eBay. Even though we live in 200 square feet, we still have things to sell… which is crazy, but true.

Encouraged by our February result of $72 after expenses (eBay fees and shipping), we reflected at the end of the month writing: “With each sale we felt lighter, and we will continue into March with a goal of $75. We will update you on the yay or nay of the outcome.” So the time has come. Is it a “yay” or a “nay”?

What is the March number?

Turns out it’sssss…

(drum roll please!)

$193.54!

We wouldn’t be us if we didn’t immediately proceed to set a new goal. After all, we’re all about success through failure. The average of February & March numbers is $133, meaning a reasonable April goal would be $135. Let’s add $25 for funzies, and let the listing begin! New goal for April: $160.

…Ok, I wrote the skeleton of this while waiting for Mr. SS to do the math and I’m kind of dying with anticipation. Making this a game suddenly changes this task into something exciting. Now if only I could find a competitive way to do dishes and put away laundry!

Wow, congratulations! After a lot of hesitation, I finally decided to start selling on eBay last year…I thought it would be difficult, but I’ve found it to be an awesome way to make a few extra bucks selling stuff I planned on getting rid of anyway!

What all did you sell? I’m always looking for more data points on what sells well on eBay, haha. 🙂

Once again, thanks for the comment.
Oh gosh, what HAVEN’T we sell. Mostly stuff we’ve carried around the last several moves even after paring down a good bit, because we felt bad throwing in away. Pocket knives, Knickknacks, old jewelry, I’ve sold TWO BROKEN watches. People will really buy almost anything. The key is to have patience, a number of things we’ve sold haven’t sold until the 2nd or 3rd time we’ve listed them.

That’s good to know! I’ve had the most success selling shoes and electronics, but heaven knows I have plenty of knickknacks I’d love to get some money for. 😀
